Ocho Rios can secure second-round berth today
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Ocho Rios High can secure a place in the second round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition today with a bounce back win over Marcus Garvey High in their return-round Zone I game at Drax Hall.
Ocho Rios High lead with 13 points, six more than Steer Town and Brown’s Town, who are tied on seven points each, and could book their second-round place with two games to go.
Seven games are down to be contested today with the battle for places expected to continue in Zone B and Zone L as the return-round heats up.
At Drax Hall, Ocho Rios will hope to prove their 0-0 draw against last-placed York Castle on Monday was a fluke and will seek to extend their unbeaten run in Zone I to 13 games, dating back to last year.
They are still to concede a goal in their five games played and will face a Marcus Garvey team who they beat 2-0 in the first round and that has scored just four times in five games, but have conceded six goals in the process.
Meanwhile, Brown’s Town and Steer Town will continue their race to see who will join Ocho Rios in the next round, and Brown’s Town will be hoping to at least repeat their first-round 1-0 win over Steer Town.
They are ahead only on goal difference and have played one more game than their opponents today.
If all goes to form, the status quo will remain in Zone B, as the top three teams (Rusea’s High, Frome Technical and Green Island) are expected to win comfortably.
On Tuesday, Rusea’s High opened up a four-point lead in Zone B with a big 5-0 thrashing of Cambridge High and should have things just as easy today against Hopewell High in a game that will be played at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Rusea’s had beaten Hopewell 8-1 in their first meeting.
Frome Technical will be away to Cambridge High, who they had beaten 3-0 in the first game, while Green Island should improve on their 0-0 draw against Knockalva Technical.
Port Antonio High should extend their lead in Zone L when they host Fair Prospect, who they had edged 1-0 in the first round, while Horace Clarke host Happy Grove in the other game.
