Munro edge closer to STETHS
MUNRO, St Elizabeth — Munro College closed the gap on front runners St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) to one point after edging Newell High 1-0 in their ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup Zone E return-round schoolboy football game yesterday, despite finishing the game with 10 players.
Munro College’s win and a 1-1 draw between STETHS and Lacovia High saw the gap between the teams shrink to one point as the race for the top spot in the group intensifies.
There were red cards in both games as Munro College’s goal-scorer Tavin Shaw went from hero to villain as he was expelled from the game after he scored what was the winner.
Despite going down to 10 players, Lacovia High battled back from a one-goal deficit to earn the draw.
Rusea’s High created some space at the top of the table in Zone B after thrashing Cambridge High 5-0 in their game in Lucea, while Frome avenged their first-round loss to Green Island, winning 1-0 at Frome, thanks to a first-half penalty from Keith Blake.
Rusea’s High improved to 16 points, four more than Frome Technical’s 12, while Green Island slipped into third place, stuck on 11 points.
It was the first goal conceded by Green Island and their first loss.
Port Antonio scored their second win over Horace Clarke High this year, edging them 1-0 to go three points clear at the top of Zone L.
Second-placed Titchfield High and Happy Grove played out a 2-2 draw in the other game, as Port Antonio High are now on 12 points with Titchfield on nine.
Steer Town moved past Brown’s Town on goal difference into second place in Zone I after playing out a 1-1 draw with Marcus Garvey High.
Steer Town and Brown’s Town are both on seven points, but Steer Town have the better goal difference though playing one game more.
