Former champions Frome Technical face a must-win game today against Green Island to stay in the race for one of two second-round places from Zone B when they host Green Island High at the Frome Sports Club, as ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football continues with nine return games.

Frome Technical are in third place on nine points, two behind Green Island, who had surprised them 3-0 in the first round.

A number of other schools — including former champions Rusea’s High, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), and Munro College — will be seeking to cement progression from their respective zones.

Frome are coming off a 0-2 loss to leaders Rusea’s High on Saturday which had them fall four points off the lead. They are expected to have a tough task against a Green Island team that has not conceded a goal in all five games this season.

Andre Cunningham has scored six of Frome Technical’s 10 goals and is the leader of the attack, but Green Island have a more balanced attack, led by Marlando Johnson and Glenford Vassell.

Rusea’s will be home against Cambridge High, who are coming off their first win in the competition in years, but the former champions are expected to take home all three points.

STETHS ended their first round with a slim 1-0 win over Newell under floodlights in Santa Cruz on Saturday, and will kick off the return round away to an ambitious Lacovia High team that is in third place.

STETHS had won the first-round game 2-1 a week ago, and will hope for another three points today.

Munro College are coming off a massive 7-2 win over BB Coke on Saturday — their biggest output in one game in many years. Those seven goals are more than what they achieved in their previous four games combined, and Munro should be confident they can get the better of Newell High.

Oneeko Allen exploded for five goals on Saturday and no doubt will be gunning to add to his tally again today as the former champions, hunting their first title in over 50 years, seek to stay in contention.

Second place will be the reward, at least for 24 hours when third-placed Steer Town Academy and fourth-placed Marcus Garvey, meet at Drax Hall in Zone I.

Ocho Rios lead with a perfect 12 points from four wins, followed by Brown’s Town High (seven points), Steer Town (six) and Marcus Garvey (four).

Steer Town won the first-round game 2-1, and have not lost to Marcus Garvey in their last three meetings.

Zone L leaders Port Antonio High and second-placed Titchfield High will seek to extend their lead over the rest of the field with games against Horace Clarke High and Happy Grove, respectively.

Port Antonio, who are on nine points, beat last-placed Horace Clarke 4-0 in their first-round game, while Titchfield were held 0-0 by Happy Grove, who are third place on four points.
