Dinthill look to extend win-streak in daCosta Cup
Former champion Dinthill Technical will be going after their sixth-straight win today when they take on Bog Walk High in a rescheduled ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup Zone K first-round game at the Bybrook Sports Complex.
Six rescheduled games are set to be played today, all of which were originally scheduled to be played between September 12-19, but were postponed mostly due to rain and waterlogged fields.
Dinthill Technical are coming off a 3-0 win over McGrath High on Saturday and will seek to join two other schools— Manchester High and Seaforth High — to have won their first six games.
Seven schools have stayed perfect since the start of the season and have taken the advantage in their respective zones.
Also today, Herbert Morrison Technical and Ben Francis Cup Knockout holders Lennon High will be seeking to build on big wins on Saturday, as they hope to rev up their chances of making it out of the first round.
Dinthill Technical’s 26 goals lead the competition and will put the Bog Walk defence under pressure today as they seek to move within a win of cementing a place in the second round.
Bog Walk, on 11 points, won their first two games, but since then they have drawn two of their next three games and trail Dinthill Technical by four points going into today’s game.
Kaheem Parris has scored nine goals to lead the Dinthill Technical attack and will be supported by Andre Fletcher, who has scored back-to-back doubles in his last two outings.
In Zone C, Herbert Morrison will hope to carry over momentum from Saturday’s game where they scored five second-half goals on their way to a 7-2 spanking of hapless William Knibb Memorial. In so doing, they snapped a four-game winless start in which they managed only two goals in 360 minutes. Both of those were from dead-ball situations.
Matthew Thorpe got a hattrick on Saturday, while Richard Thompson and Matthew Dowe both got two goals each.
Herbert Morrison will go up against Muschett High who are on two points and joint last with Holland High.
Lennon High and Edwin Allen will both be desperate for three points today in their Zone H game after coming off contrasting results on Saturday.
Edwin Allen are on six points and had their two-game winning start ended in a 1-2 defeat to Clarendon College. But they have the consolation of being the first team to breach the Clarendon defence all year.
Lennon High, who are on four points, scored their first win on Saturday with a 13-0 beatdown of Claude McKay High. It appeared a venting of frustration after they gave up five second-half goals against Clarendon College a week earlier.
Lennon High beat Edwin Allen twice last season with a 7-0 aggregate, but will face a much improved team today.
