3 teams stay perfect in daCosta Cup
Manchester High, Central High and Seaforth High extended their unbeaten run in the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition with contrasting wins yesterday.
Manchester High ended their first-round schedule in Zone F with a 5-0 win over DeCarteret College, while Central High edged Vere Technical 1-0 to extend their lead in Zone N. Despite conceding goals for the first time this season, Seaforth High held off second-placed Morant Bay High 3-2 in Zone O.
In one game scheduled for today, second-placed Port Antonio High could take over the lead in Zone L, if they can beat third-placed Happy Grove High.
Port Antonio, last year’s zone winners, are on six points from two wins, one behind leaders Titchfield High. Happy Grove are on four points.
In Mandeville, Marcel Holness scored twice to lead Manchester High to a big win as they raced to 15 points. Ashani Barrett, Livingston Walker and Larry Maitland added one goal each.
Mile Gully High slipped further behind Manchester High in second place as they were held 0-0 by Cross Keys, their third winless game after starting the season with back-to-back wins.
Oral Hines scored his first goal of the season as Central High got by Vere Technical. It was their fourth-straight game without conceding a goal.
Garvey Maceo High moved past Vere Technical into second place after a 1-0 win over Kemps Hill, and Old Harbour High beat Bustamante High 2-0.
Seaforth High’s defence gave up two goals, but a double from Evan Walker took them to a 3-2 win over Morant Bay. It was their fifth win of the season.
Ramoy Davis scored the other goal for Seaforth High — his fourth of the season as they improved to 15 points, five more than Paul Bogle High and Morant Bay.
Paul Bogle were 6-1 winners over St Thomas Technical.
Yallahs High scored their first win — after four consecutive losses — when they beat Robert Lightbourne 2-0 to move off the foot of the table.
