Manchester, Central, Seaforth put impressive records on line today
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Three schools — Manchester High, Central High and Seaforth High — will put impressive winning records on the line today as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition continues with nine games in three zones.
Manchester High in Zone F and Seaforth High in Zone O will both be gunning for their fifth straight win, while Central High will line up for a fourth straight win in Zone N.
Of the three zone leaders, Manchester High are the only school that have conceded a goal, one single goal, as Central High and Seaforth High have kept clean sheets in all their games played so far to add gloss to their already impressive records.
While Manchester High should be able to get past DeCarteret College, both Central High and Seaforth High are expected to get their first real tests this season.
Central High will be at home to Vere Technical, who have reasserted themselves in the group the last few years and are only a point adrift in second place, while Seaforth High take on second-placed Morant Bay High.
Two days after being held goal-less by Garvey Maceo, Vere Technical will face the stingiest defence in the zone with Central High just coming off a 3-0 win over Old Harbour High.
Central High have scored six times in their three games, while Vere Technical have seven goals in four and should these two teams play out a draw, Garvey Maceo in third place on seven points could make full use of the opportunity with a win at Kemps Hill.
Seaforth High are one of the dark horses in the competition, despite winning their zone last year, and will need to prove their mettle against Morant Bay High, who have scored 12 goals so far, one more than the leaders but they have also conceded five goals in their four games.
Damarney Hutchinson with five goals and Andrew Harris who scored twice on Tuesday are expected to lead the Seaforth High attack today.
Meanwhile, Paul Bogle High, one of the more consistent teams in the zone for the past six years or so, will be looking to move up in the points standings from third when they take on St Thomas Technical.
Paul Bogle are on seven points, three more than the former zone bullies and a win today would essentially turn the zone into a three-team race for the two automatic spots in the second round.
