Oracabessa High vs St Mary Technical to highlight 19 games on today
RICHMOND, St Mary — Oracabessa High and St Mary Technical will put their perfect win records at stake today when they meet in an ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup Zone J, top-of-the-table clash at the Richmond Prison Oval.
Oracabessa High have won their first three games and will be one of five schools, including defending champions Cornwall College, who will be going for a fourth-straight win, while St Mary Technical will hope to extend their winning run to three straight.
Nineteen games are down to be played today with Spalding High and Holmwood Technical also set to battle for Zone G supremacy.
Former champions Dinthill Technical and Glenmuir High, as well as Spot Valley High and Ocho Rios High will also be seeking to chalk up their fourth-straight win today.
In the game that could highlight today’s set of matches, Oracabessa and St Mary Technical last met in the first round in 2014 when they shared wins, as Oracabessa went on to win the zone and advanced to the second round, while St Mary Technical finished third.
St Mary Technical won Zone J last year while Oracabessa scored just six points in Zone L with one win and three draws.
On present form however, Oracabessa High will start favourites, on paper, having scored 10 goals in their three games, but face a St Mary Technical defence that has not been breached in their two games played so far.
In Zone A, champions Cornwall College will play away to a Maldon High team that will be on a high, coming off their first-ever win over Green Pond on Saturday but who were outscored 10-2 by Cornwall in two games last year.
Cornwall will also be confident after beating a tough St James High team — expected to be their biggest challengers in Zone A — and the coaching staff could rest striker Aiden Jokomba, who limped off in the first half against St James on Saturday.
