MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Manchester High and Seaforth High will both go after their fourth straight win today as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition continues with 22 games in eight zones.

In total five schools with perfect win records will be in action as Edwin Allen High in Zone H and Central High and Garvey Maceo High in Zone N will also try to extend their two-game win streak as well.

Additionally, Petersfield High and Little London will clash in an enticing Zone D top-of-the-group meeting that will see the winners opening up a big lead at the top.

On the heels of a 2-0 win over Mile Gully in their top-of-the-zone clash on Saturday while playing with 10 men for 81 minutes, Manchester High will start overwhelming favourites to beat Cross Keys at home.

Cross Keys, who are on one point from their two games played, have managed just one draw against Manchester High in the last 10 meetings between the teams.

Seaforth High are continuing from last year’s success when they won the zone for the first time and have won their first three games already and have set their sights firmly on Robert Lightbourne High, who have earned one point from their three games and have conceded 10 goals in the process.

Seaforth High are one of several teams still to concede a goal and should extend their best start ever to a daCosta Cup season with a win.

Edwin Allen can join Clarendon College on points at the top of Zone H with their third win when they face Ben Francis KO champions Lennon High, who were thrashed 5-0 by Clarendon on Saturday.

Lennon beat Edwin Allen both times last season and coach Merron Gordon will have his hands full in getting the team in fighting spirit after conceding five goals in the second half three days ago.

It has been tough going for Lennon High as after coming from behind to draw 2-2 against Thompson Town, they were blown away on Saturday and will face an Edwin Allen team coming off back-to-back wins and will be confident.

The battle for the top two places in Zone N will intensify today as Garvey Maceo High and Central High, tied on statistics (six points and a goal difference of three) will seek to stay perfect.

While Central will have the easier task, on paper, playing away to fourth-placed Old Harbour High, losers of two of their three games, Garvey Maceo face leaders Vere Technical who are on seven points and are seen as the best team in the zone.

It will be the first meeting between Garvey Maceo and Vere Technical in the first round for the first time in years after Garvey Maceo moved over from Zone M this season.

Central and Old Harbour shared wins last year but Central are off to a much better start this term and will have momentum on their sides today.

If last year’s results are anything to go by, then the Petersfield vs Little London game could be a close and fierce battle between two teams that impressed last year.

Petersfield won their second-round game last year, in the final set of games to edge Little London on goal difference as both finished on 19 points behind zone winners Godfrey Stewart High.

Both would advance to the quarter-finals as well and today’s winner could make a big move towards zone dominance.

Another close game should be played in Zone D between Sav-la-mar neighbours Manning’s School and Godfrey Stewart, separated by a few hundred yards.

Godfrey Stewart are yet to win while Manning’s are in third place and a win today and a draw in the top-of-the-zone clash would see a three-way tie for the lead.

After being held goalless at Munro College for the first time in years on Saturday, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) will seek to rebound today but face a potentially dangerous Lacovia High team, tied with Munro College in third place, both on four points.

STETHS are still the leaders on seven points, one more than Maggotty High, who play away to B B Coke, while Munro College are away to Newell High where they were held 1-1 last season.

The top three team are separated by two points in Zone B and after being held 0-0 at home by Green Island, leaders Rusea’s High are expected to rebound against Knockalva Technical.

Second-placed Frome Technical and Green Island are also expected to win and stay in touch as they play last-placed Hopewell High and Cambridge High respectively.
