Loose cannon returns with eye-catching run
The speedy Loose Cannon returned to competitive racing from a six-month break with an eye-catching run last Saturday, winning a Restricted Stakes event over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) by over two lengths in a time of 1:05.4.
Last at the races in March, Loose Cannon finished fourth in a five-furlong (1,000m) event on the round course as the 1-9 favourite, but the Blue Pepsi Lodge offspring then returned on Saturday and did not disappoint this time around, using his natural speed to ditch rivals by two and a quarter lengths.
Ridden by Omar Walker, Loose Cannon was sent to the front and was never challenged throughout the entire race.
“He has had some problems, so we had given him the rest and gradually brought him back.
We expected a good run from him today (Saturday); I mean 1:05.4 on a fast track is still a good performance,” trainer Wayne DaCosta told the Supreme Racing Guide.
Second behind Loose Cannon was the filly Bilingual, who was also making a return to racing after a long absence and her exploits in the Classic races, with third going to Akash (Paul Francis).
