NHF weigh-in day a ball of discourtesy
Dear Editor,
The National Health Fund (NHF) should reconsider its annual fitness challenge if it is that its staff/volunteers have no people skills and hold such contempt for others.
When I signed up for the competition I was upbeat and enthusiastic but, after my experiences on Saturday at the weigh-in and fitness test for the competition, were it not for my other teammates I would back out.
The scene at Mico University College in Kingston turned out to be chaotic and was made worse by at least two discourteous and disrespectful members of the NHF team, including a senior staff member who one would expect to have been professional at all times.
People are not taking time out of their weekend to support the NHF only to end up being “traced” over a banana by the “banana marshal” on the field (who was not in any way, shape, or form identified as such). The individual argued rudely that I should have “asked” before taking one of the bananas — which had been provided for contestants — and proceeded to ‘carry on’. When I got out of bed at 6:00 am to be at this event I certainly did not expect to be attacked over a $20 fruit.
In addition to that, the senior PR person was also very rude in dismissing my colleague and I as we attempted to ask her for assistance in clarity to determine which one of the lines we needed to join to move on to the next stage of the morning’s proceedings. Had the procedures been clear and straightforward, and scores of people not had to be bundling in utter confusion seeking to find out what to do next, there would have been no need for anyone to seek guidance, only to be discourteously spoken with and here the officer walk away in a most dismissive manner.
Not only were these individuals rude, the whole experience was a total turn-off.
