Monies trickle in for Vegas’s project
UP to press time yesterday, Mr Vegas’s g o f undme account had received US$1,550 of the US$200,000 he needs to assist Caribbean victims of Hurricane Irma.
The dancehall singjay started the initiative on September 7 and also penned a single, Adios Irma, to accompany the project.
“Music and sports always bonded us together as Caribbean people. Therefore, I wanted to make a song that will bring even a temporary smile and lots of donations to the Caribbean people affected by Irma,” said Mr Vegas. “The fund-raising effort is focused on people affected by Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean.”
Before it walloped Florida on Sunday, Hurricane Irma crashed through the Caribbean, causing major damage.
The Category 5 storm, which ravaged the islands with near-record, sustained 185-mph winds, battered an estimated 1.2 million people.
Irma cut a devastating path, leaving at least 44 people dead in its wake — 11 in the French territories, 10 in Cuba, five in the British Virgin Islands, five in the US Virgin Islands, four in Anguilla, four in St Maarten, three in Puerto Rico, one in Haiti, and one in Barbuda.
According to CNN, Anguilla, Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, St. Martin/St Maarten, the US Virgin Islands, and Turks and Caicos were hardest hit, with up to 99 per cent of structures at least partly damaged.
Mr Vegas is encouraging persons who are unable to donate to simply watch the video in its entirety and share the awareness with friends and family, letting them know that when they watch and listen to the song, they are contributing to the people affected by Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean Islands.
All donations will be transparent and all proceeds from downloads, donations, pledges and views will be donated to the Caribbean people, through the Mr Vegas’s Foundation.
