Lybran pens song for Hero
“I JUST wanted to meet him,” St Thomas-based singjay Lybran told Splash yesterday.
The entertainer was referring to 24-year-old Tremayne Brown, who rescued 12-year-old Reynaldo Reynolds in Trench Town from drowning in raging flood waters last Friday. Lybran said that Brown’s courageous act led him to pen the lyrics to his latest single called Trench Town Hero.
“Our island is saturated with crime and violence so it is not very often that we will see such acts. This young man clearly would give up his life to save the youngster, and this is something that our country can never forget,” he said.
The entertainer said after releasing Trench Town Hero on Wednesday, he printed dozens of CDS and decided to journey to Trench Town to meet Brown. It is produced by St Thomas-based Deno Dean Records.
“I really want to show my appreciation to this young man. We need to elaborate on gestures like this so I decided that I needed to meet him to tell him thanks in person. However, when I got there, persons already knew the song and was very appreciative of it. It was already blasting from music speakers in the area,” he said.
Lybran is just one of scores of individuals who have hailed Brown for his courageous and selfless act. Since the incident, several companies have commended Brown and has offered him employment.
Catherine Goodall, marketing manager of beverages at LASCO Distributors Ltd, said when Brown recovers from his injuries, he will be eligible for a post in the promotions department.
Major Basil Jarrett, civil military cooperation and media affairs officer at the Jamaica Defence Force, said Brown’s courage was beyond question.
In addition, Brown may receive a National Award from the Jamaican Government. But with all the recognition, Lybran described Brown as a very humble being.
“I really felt his energy. He is a really humble and spiritual youth. He really made a difference in our society and I really hope that he will be a motivation to the world and others will follow in his footsteps,” he said.
Lybran, whose real name is Lamon Cousins, hails from the parish of St Thomas. He, however, grew up in Waterhouse in Kingston and spent a few years in Manchester, which helped to mould his direction in the business.
The 31-year-old is known for songs like Di Way Yuh Whine, Lybran Nowadays, and Sexy Body, a collaboration with Chico.
