Glenmuir stay perfect in daCosta Cup
Former champions Glenmuir High became the first team to win their first three games in the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition after beating Denbigh High 3-1 in their Zone M game at Juici Park, May Pen yesterday.
Dinthill Technical and Bog Walk in Zone K and Oracabessa in Zone J were denied the chance to get their third win in a row yesterday as heavy rains in parts of the island resulted in a number of games being called off.
Spot Valley High stayed perfect in Zone C after, edging Holland High 1-0, despite ending the game with just 10 players. Holmwood Technical rebounded from two straight goalless draws to hammer new boys Troy High 10-0 in Zone G.
Today, Marcus Garvey and York Castle will go after their first win when they meet in Zone I at Drax Hall. Both are at the foot of the points table with no point. Marcus Garvey have lost both games played so far, while York Castle lost in their only game.
At Juici Field yesterday, Roniel Harris scored in his third-straight game and took his tally to six goals as he led Glenmuir to their win with Javan Thompson and Aaron Burrell also scoring against Denbigh High.
Courtney Chisholm scored in his second-straight game to lead Spot Valley High to a second 1-0 win, this time edging Holland High at Holland to race to six points and into sole leadership of Zone C.
They ended the game with 10 players after Otis Clarke was sent off in the second half.
Cedric Titus and William Knibb Memorial won for the first time this season as they both improved to four points behind Spot Valley.
Tristan Warren and Andre Coleman scored for Cedric Titus in their 2-0 win over Herbert Morrison Technical, while William Knibb edged Muschett High 2-1 in Wakefield.
After back-to-back goalless draws, Holmwood Technical bounced back with a big 10-0 win over debutants Troy High in a Zone G game, with Junior Shields and Philmore Virgo getting two goals each.
However, Alston High and Spalding High are tied on seven points for the lead in Zone G with wins yesterday.
Alston blanked Christiana High 3-0, while Spalding beat Knox College 2-1.
Little London joined Petersfield High in the lead in Zone D after a 2-0 win over Black River High in a game rescheduled from Wednesday.
Clive Silburn and Dwayne Hassley scored for Little London as they joined Petersfield High on four points from two games.
