IRWIN, St James — Champions Cornwall College led eight schools, including four other former winners, who scored back-to-back wins as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition continued yesterday.

Cornwall College blanked Irwin High 3-0 at Irwin to run their perfect winning streak to 20 games dating back to last season, but were overtaken on goal difference by St James High, who beat Maldon high 5-0, setting up a Zone A clash between the rivals on Saturday.

Rusea’s High, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Clarendon College are the former champions who also won yesterday, while Manchester High, Mile Gully and Seaforth High all won their second-straight games.

Other former winners, Munro College and Frome Technical, both tasted defeat as they went down to upset losses.

After their opening win on Saturday, Cornwall College followed up with a 3-0 win over Irwin High with goals from Oshane Brown, Shavon McDonald, who got his fourth of the season, and Denyu Ricketts.

Ewan Barton scored two goals in back-to-back games as he led the St James attack with Lacquaine Ellis, Calwayne Allen, and Ackeem Smith getting one each as they assumed the lead in Zone A on goal difference with both schools tied on six points each.

Rusea’s High, who were playing their second game in two days, beat Cambridge High 2-0 in muddy and slippery conditions that made playing football difficult.

An own goal and another from Leonardo Fogarthy, his fourth of the season, gave them a 2-0 lead from as early as the 16th minute, but they failed to add to the tally after scoring eight against Hopewell High.

Even with 10 players, after Nick-Jay White was sent off after being shown a second yellow early in the second half, STETHS were still too much for BB Coke, as Tahjae Palmer scored two with Ronaldo Webster, DeMar James and Alex Thompson each getting one goal.

After their 16-0 demolition of Claude McKay on Saturday, Clarendon College could only beat Thompson Town 2-0 in their Zone H game.

Marlon Miller and Demoy Wright both scored hat-tricks as Mile Gully swamped May Day 11-1 to take over the lead in Zone F on goal difference over Manchester High, who came from an early goal down to beat Belair High 2-1.

Rocarri Rowe and Kimmani Blake scored for Manchester High in their come-from-behind win.

Seaforth High maintained their good start in Zone O as they beat St Thomas Technical 3-0, while Sanjay Phipps scored a hat-trick to lead Port Antonio High to a 4-0 win over Horace Clarke High for their first win of the season.

Maurice Reid and Rushaun Grant scored for Maggotty High as they upset the fancied Munro College 2-1 at Munro, avenging a loss by the same scoreline there last year.

Javed Smith, Beresford Bucknor and Glenford Vassell got on the scoresheet for Green Island, as they defeated Frome Technical 3-0.
