Brazen Spanish Town attack leaves one dead, four injured
INVESTIGATORS from the Major Investigations Division were yesterday trying to ascertain the motive behind yesterday’s brazen shooting incident at the Spanish Town bus park which left one man dead and four others nursing gunshot wounds.
The daring gun attack, which took place just after 1:30 pm at the bus park on Burke Road, claimed the life of 24-year-old Quain Faulkner of Oxford Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Head of the St Catherine North Police Senior Superintendent (SSP) Anthony Powell told the Jamaica Observer that five people — three men and two women — were injured after explosions were heard at the bus terminus.
The injured men and women were taken to Spanish Town Hospital where one of the men succumbed to his injuries. Another was said to be in serious condition last night.
The park has long been identified by police as a major “hang-out spot” for extortionists who prey on transportation operators. The bus park has also, over the years, been the venue for several violent clashes between rival gunmen from the Klansman and One Order gangs.
However, SSP Powell was unable to say if the shooting yesterday was gang-related.
“We have no idea if it is gang-related or otherwise. We are doing our investigation, but the problem we are having is getting information,” he said. “As a matter of fact, we are not able to say if it was one or two shooters who did the shooting,” the senior cop added.
