MAY PEN, Clarendon — Former champions Glenmuir High and Dinthill Technical were among five schools which won back-to- back games to start the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football competition with easy wins yesterday.

Led by a four-timer from Roniel Harris, the Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters-led Glenmuir High hammered Foga Road 9-0 in their Zone M game at the Juicy Beef complex, while Dinthill were 4-1 winners over Ewarton High in the Zone K game at the Bramwell-Clarke complex in Ewarton, as they stayed tops in their respective zones.

Javane Thompson also scored a hat-trick for Glenmuir, while Kevon Lewin and Jamoy Hayles also got one goal each.

Shamari Davis scored twice to lead Dinthill Technical, while Kaheem Parris and Martin Beech got the other goals as they stayed ahead of Bog Walk High on goal difference. Bog Walk also won back-to-back games, blanking McGrath High 3-0.

Michal McKoy and Shamar Reddie scored for Ocho Rios in their 2-0 win over Marcus Garvey in Zone I, while St Mary Technical beat Brimmervale High 2-0 in Zone J.

In Zone C, Spot Valley High jumped out to the early lead with a 1-0 win over Muschett as Williams Knibb Memorial and Cedric Titus drew 2-2 in Martha Brae, while Herbert Morrison, who finished with nine players, got a late penalty from Richard Thompson to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Holland High.

Salano Berch picked up two yellow cards and was sent off by referee Ojay Duhaney, while Marc-Dane Graham was sent off minutes after he came on as a second half substitute. He allegedly threw mud in the direction of the referee while protesting a call.

Meanwhile, 15 schools, led by defending champions Cornwall College, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Clarendon College and Rusea’s High, will be seeking back-to-back wins today when the competition continues with 23 games across eight zones.

Cornwall College started their title defence with a 4-1 win over Green Pond on Saturday and face Irwin High at Irwin, where coach Anthony “Follies” Williams will hope to be able to field his preferred starting team.

Irwin High were beaten 0-3 by St James on Monday in a game in which the start was held up by almost an hour as they did not have identification cards for all players and the referees refused to start the game until Williams decided to field a starting team with players who had ID cards.

Despite the four goals against Green Pond, Cornwall College will want to impress today against a team they have outscored 33-1 in their last six games and Shavon McDonald, who scored three times on Saturday, Aiden Jokomba and Garnet Hudson will hope to help their team to a good win.

St James High’s Coach Theodore Whitmore will hope his players can complete a higher per cent of their scoring chances when they play away to Maldon High.

They scored twice very early against an unsettled Irwin then had to wait until late in the game before getting a third to kill off the game.

Clarendon College sent early signals of their awesome firepower with a 16-0 drubbing of Claude McKay on Saturday and Ricardo McIntosh and Lamar Walker, who combined for 11 of those goals, will go hunting again when they take on Thompson Town in a Zone H game.

Thompson Town led last year’s Ben Francis KO champions Lennon High 2-0, but then had to hold on for a 2-2 draw and will face a much better team today.

STETHS and Rusea’s High both scored eight goals in their opening games on Monday and will face BB Coke and Cambridge High, respectively, today and are expected to extend their winning starts.

The last time BB Coke played in Zone E they upset STETHS 1-0 in the first round but were brought back to Earth, losing 0-4, in the return game and should be up against it, playing at STETHS today despite outscoring Newell High 3-2 in their opening game.

Rusea’s High will hope to continue their good form against Cambridge, who are returning to the competition after a three-year break.

Petersfield High, Manchester High and Vere Technical will also be seeking to extend their good starts.
