PM to make statement on ZOSO in House today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness is to make a statement in the House of Representatives this afternoon updating the nation on the developments in regards to the first Zone of Special Operation (ZOSO) in Mount Salem, St James.
The Mt Salem ZOSO has been of primary interest to Jamaicans since the announcement on Friday, September 1, which was made under the provisions of the new anti-crime bill known as the Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Act, 2017.
The prime minister will be asked to answer questions, after his statement, mainly from the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips, and Opposition spokesman on national security, Peter Bunting. The prime minister is also to a answer by Phillips regarding the development proposal for Kingston and adjoining areas.
Local Government and Community Development minister, Desmond McKenzie, is expected to seek an early resumption of the debate on the Building Act during the sitting.
McKenzie told OBSERVER ONLINE yesterday that he will seek to have the debate resumed next Tuesday, especially in light of the recent developments regarding climate change and the ferocity of hurricanes in the region.
