Holmes, Moncriffe to fight in Canada
Jamaican boxers Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes and Devon ‘Concrete’ Moncriffe, regular faces in the Wray & Nephew Contender Boxing Series, are to battle Canadian boxers in Canada over the next few weeks.
Both fights are set to go 10 rounds.
The boxers will appear on cards promoted in Montreal by United Promotions after they drew the attention of Canadian boxing promoter Tyler Buxton.
Buxton, a frequent visitor to Jamaica and to the Contender Series, is the first of the visiting promoters to offer Jamaican fighters from the local boxing event contracts for fights overseas. There they can earn larger purses than usually offered for locally promoted fights.
Moncriffe, a former Contender winner, and Holmes, one of the most consistent performers in boxing series, are currently in training for their Canadian assault.
Holmes will be the first to leave for a 10-round encounter against Canadian southpaw boxer Cody ‘The Crippler’ Crowley on September 30. Holmes and his trainer/manager Carl Grant is to depart Jamaica on September 26 and should return on October 1.
Holmes, 29, has a ring record of 15 wins against seven losses with eight KOs from 22 fights. He will go up against the undefeated Canadian-born Las Vegas-based Crowley, who has a record of 12 wins with six KOs. Crowley, a wily 24-year-old fighter, has made his name in the US, Canada and in Mexico.
The opponent for Moncriffe, whose engagement takes place on October 15, will be confirmed shortly, say organisers.
