Daily murders increase since ZOSO — Phillips
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips has argued that the daily murder rate has increased since the declaration of the first zone of special operation (ZOSO) in Mount Salem, St James almost two weeks ago.
Phillips, who was speaking in the House of Representatives this afternoon, maintained that the rate of daily murders have been greater than the national average.
“Indeed since the declaration of the zone the rate of murders daily has been greater than the national average, that is to say we have been going nationally at about 4.4 murders per day, thus far in the period since the zone [declaration] the national average is approximately 5.5 murders per day,”said Phillips.
Mount Salem was declared a ZOSO on September 1.
It has been reported that since the start of this month 54 people have died.
