Rusea’s, STETHS begin daCosta
Rusea’s High and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are among six former champions who will get their ISSA/ Flow daCosta Cup season up and running today, as the competition continues with 11 games across four zones.
Vassell Reynolds will officially start his tenure at Rusea’s High when they host Hopewell High in a Zone B game at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea, while STETHS, losers in two finals last season, are away to Maggotty High in a Zone E game.
St James High will host Irwin High at Jarrett Park, Frome Technical are home to Cambridge High, and Godfrey Stewart play away to Black River, while Munro College are away to Lacovia High.
The competition got underway on Saturday with defending champions Cornwall College beating Green Pond High 4-1 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
It was title-contenders Clarendon College who stole the spotlight however, with a 15-0 whipping of Claude McKay High. Manchester High beat May Day 7-0, Dinthill Technical beat McGrath High 6-0, while Alston High were 5-0 winners over newcomers Troy High.
Today Rusea’s, who were quarter-finalists in both the daCosta Cup and Flow Super Cup competitions last season, are expected to start on a winning note against Hopewell High, who are returning to the competition after a short break.
Reynolds, who took Wolmer’s Boys’ to the Flow Cup title last year, has about six starters from last season’s team and is expected to be the class of Zone B.
STETHS are coming off a disappointing season, by their standards, failing to win a title for the first time in seven years, but coach Omar Wedderburn has vowed they will be back better than ever this season.
