Fitz Jackson seeking PNP chairmanship
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament (MP) for St Catherine South Fitz Jackson has confirmed reports that he will be vying for the chairmanship of the People’s National Party (PNP).
MP for St Andrew Western Anthony Hylton has also thrown his hat into the ring for the position. Jackson and Hylton are aiming to replace Robert Pickersgill who has served as chairman of the party for the past 25 years, earning himself the moniker “chairman for life”.
This is Pickersgill’s final week in the post, deputy general secretary Basil Waite told comrades last night at the party’s annual east central St Andrew conference held at Jacisera Park, off Molynes Road, in the constituency.
Jackson and Hylton officially signalled their intention to party supporters welcoming St Andrew East Central MP, Dr Peter Phillips, who addressed the conference for the first time as leader of the opposition.
The votes for chairmanship of the party will be taken at the PNP’s 79th annual general conference slated for the National Stadium from September 14-17.
