China’s top diplomat visits Jamaica today
China’s top diplomat, State Councillor Yang Jiechi is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica today on a one-day working visit.
A news release from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said Yang and a 12-member delegation will meet with Prime Minister Andrew Holness and discuss a range of bilateral, regional and multilateral issues including Chinese investment projects in Jamaica, the One Belt, One Road Initiative, and climate change.
The state councillor’s visit is aimed at enhancing and strengthening the long-standing relationship between Jamaica and China which will this year mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kingston and Beijing.
Yang is the director of China’s Central Foreign Affairs Office and a prominent architect of Chinese foreign policy.
During the visit ,Yang will also pay a courtesy call on Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, tour Bob Marley Museum, and attend a meeting at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
The state councillor and his delegation will leave the island this afternoon.
