Abeeku and the Maroons premiere
DIGITAL animation series, Abeeku and the Maroons premieres at CARIMAC’s Annex 2 at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, today.
The event, which is free to the public, is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
“This project has been long in the making and we are elated to finally bring it to the screen. We had developed the concept at a time when Jap anime was trending, but there was a woeful lack of truly Jamaican projects. You watched Jap anime and though it is fictional, you were learning so much about the culture. So we wanted to change that by creating an anime series that would make Jamaicans fanatical about their own culture,” said Chevonnese Chevers Whyte, director of Night Vision.
Night Vision Media Ltd provides creative solutions, extensive experience in creative management, animation, marketing, graphic design, web design, web development, and training.
This afternoon’s occasion will showcase the first 13 episodes of the series.
Abeeku and the Maroons chronicles the story of a reluctant leader who escapes the slave plantation then finds himself among the Maroons — a group of fearless freedom fighters. But his joy is short-lived when he realises his pregnant sister failed to make the getaway. He is determined to free her from captivity but at what cost? Meanwhile, lost and alone, Abina must find a way to quickly reunite with her brother.
“Yes, Jap anime is cool, I love it, but we too have exciting stories to tell. This series is guaranteed to rival any animated production and keep you on the edge of your seat,” said Kevin Jackson.
