Title Hunt Green Pond, MoBay City clash in St James FA U-17
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Green Pond High will seek back-to-back titles on Saturday when they take on MoBay City FC in the final of the St James Football Association Sandals International Under-17 competition at the UDC field starting at 2:00 pm.
The teams qualified after convincing wins in the semi-finals on Monday.
Green Pond extended their perfect run by beating Granville 4-1 in their game, after national Under-17 representative Richard Thompson scored four times in MoBay City FC’s 6-0 thrashing of Paradise FC.
Green Pond had to come from a goal down in their game after Ewan Barton gave Granville the lead in the 24th minute, but Tajay Berry levelled the scores in the 27th minute and Chevaughn Duncan gave them the lead in the 29th minute, as they led 2-1 at half-time.
Green Pond extended their lead in the second half as Tyrone McLairey made it 3-1 in the 57th minute and Machern Smith added a fourth in the 68th minute.
In the first semi-final, Thompson scored an 11-minute hat-trick to get MoBay City off and running as he netted in the 16th, 23rd and 27th minutes as his team led 3-0 at the break.
Salano Birch gave them a 4-0 lead in the 65th minute and Camarco Brown scored their fifth in the 77th minute, before Thompson put the icing on the cake with his fourth goal in the 79th minute.
