Policeman imprisoned for ganja possession
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An inspector of police was imprisoned for possession of ganja when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on August 10.
Dale Isaacs was charged for breaching the Dangerous Drug Act in 2011 and was sentenced to a mandatory 12 months in prison at hard labour along with a fine of $15,000 or twelve 12 months in prison for possession of ganja.
He is also to pay a fine of $500,000 or 18 months in prison for dealing in ganja.
According to police reports, in July 2011, Issacs was stopped while travelling along the Mandela Highway by operatives of the then Anti-Corruption Branch.
During a search of his vehicle a knapsack and three boxes were found to contain vegetable matter, which was later identified as ganja weighing 89 kilograms.
He was subsequently charged and found guilty of the ganja charges.
