Troy, Carron Hall High to debut in 2017 daCosta Cup
Newcomers Troy High from southern Trelawny and Carron Hall High from St Mary will make their debut in the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup competition which is set to kick off on September 9 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Carron Hall were originally placed in Zone J, while Troy High were one of two schools, along with Oracabessa High, that were put on a waiting list given all 15 zones had the maximum six teams at the time the zones were confirmed.
Since then, reports reaching the Jamaica Observer are that two schools — Glengoffe High and Maude McLeod High — have withdrawn and after a number of schools have been switched to other zones, both Troy and Oracabessa have been placed in zones bringing the total number of schools taking part to 90.
The details including the opening games will be announced at next week’s official press conference. Cornwall College and Jamaica College, the respective daCosta Cup and Manning Cup champions, will play their opening games at the official opening ceremony at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Black River High have been switched from Zone E to Zone D and will replace Maude McLeod, while BB Coke High, who were originally placed in Zone F, will now compete in Zone D.
May Day High will replace BB Coke in Zone F, switching from Zone G where they will be replaced by newcomers Troy, while Bellefield High move from Zone G to Zone M and will be replaced by Knox High.
Oracabessa High will take the place of Guys Hill in Zone J, while Guys Hill will now replace Glengoffe in Zone K.
Former winners Garvey Maceo High also move from Zone N to M, the Observer has learned.
