#London2017: 3 J’cans to contest women’s 400m title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite a struggle to the finish line, three Jamaican’s managed to pull through to the women’s 400m final at the 16th IAAF World Championships currently underway in London.
There was no uncertainty after Stephenie Ann McPherson, finished second in the first heat in 50.56 seconds behind Olympic champion Shaunae miller-Uibo, who won the heat in 50.36 seconds.
The final event is expected to be another dust-up between Miller-Uibo and Allyson Felix but 19-year-old Salwa Eid Nasser from Bahrain has put herself into medal contention, running down Felix in the home straight in the second semi final to win in 50.08.
Felix clocked 50.12s, well ahead of Jamaican’s Novlene Williams-Mills (50.67s) and Sherica Jackson (50.70s) who were third and fourth respectively.
The two Jamaicans will go into Wednesday’s final as the two fastest losers. Compatriot Chrisann Gordon will however miss out, as she placed third in heat three in a time of 50.87s.
