#London2017: Jamaica’s Blake, Dwyer, advance to 200m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Rasheed Dwyer secured their spots in the semi-final round of the 200m slated for Wednesday afternoon.
Blake ran in a time of 20. 39 seconds to win the first heat ahead of Japan’s Sani Brown, who clocked 20.52s, and Swizz Alex Wilson, who crossed the line in 20.54s.
Dwyer ran in heat two and did just enough to qualify after coming third in a time of 20.49s behind Trinidad’s Jereem Richards, who won in 20.05s, and Kyree King (20.41s) of the USA.
Meanwhile, South African, Wayde van Niekerk, and Danny Talbot of Great Britain both stopped the clock at 20.16 in the third heat with the South African — who returns to the track tomorrow for the 400m final – given the verdict by 0.001 (0.158 to 0.159).
Warren Weir, the third Jamaican in the event, failed to qualify as he was fourth in his heat, clocking 20.60 seconds, a time that was not sufficient for him to advance as one of the fastest losers.
