59 years as an organist
THE St Ann Parish Church recently honoured organist Karl Fuller for his years of service to the rural institution.
Fuller, who has been serving the church for 59 years, was surprised with an appreciation reception at Seacrest Hotel in St Ann, where family, friends and members of the church gathered.
He was lauded for his contribution to the Anglican Church and others in the country.
“He is committed to whatever he does. He is one who strives for perfection,” Bishop Leon Golding, head of the Montego Bay region of the Diocese in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, said.
He described fuller as a dedicated man who gives willingly of his time while seeking nothing in return.
“He has given that service without seeking any remuneration in return,” Golding added.
At the same time, the organist was also praised by others for his contribution to the church.
“He has contributed significantly to the development of music in the church. He is always available to play at service. He is a very humble person,” Rev Andrew Reid said.
Reid also described Fuller, who heads the radio programme ‘Christian Music of Our Time’, as one who has given years of service to the diocese.
He pointed out that despite Fuller’s accomplishments, the renowned musician has remained humble and dedicated.
Fuller was elated when he spoke to the Jamaica Observer North & East at the reception.
“It was overwhelming, it came as a surprise,” Fuller said.
He has been playing the piano since he was a teenager.
“I never stopped, I never gave up. I always try to improve over the years. My mother started me off and I have continued non-stop,” he stated.
Fuller said he is happy to know that he is well appreciated.
