DPP denies deadly encounter with assailants, asks JCF to investigate
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, says she has contacted the Cybercrimes Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to investigate a Facebook post in which she says false allegations were made about her.
According to Llewellyn, it is alleged in the social media post that she was involved in a confrontation with potential assailants, where she is said to have caused physical harm and demise to the assailants.
The DPP said this claim is false and, given the office she holds, she deemed it an obligation to set the record straight.
She explained that while she always has respect for a citizen’s right to freedom of expression, which is entrenched in the Constitution, “the creation and dissemination of falsehoods in any media will never have my support.”
“I hope that a word to the wise will be sufficient. I urge anyone who may be spreading this particular post to desist from doing so,” Llewellyn warned.
She added that as a result of the post, she has asked that the Cybercrimes and Digital Evidence Unit liaise with the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to deal with this matter within the limits of the law.
