Two British women arrested for cocaine, ganja
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Two British women were taken into custody following the seizure of quantities of ganja and cocaine at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay and the Norman Manley International Airport on Saturday and Sunday.
According to police reports, the first woman was nabbed about 9:00 pm on Saturday in Montego Bay when she was in the process of checking in for a flight destined to Europe. A suitcase she was carrying was searched and nine tins, some labelled ‘Linstead Market Callaloo’ and others ‘Linstead Market Ackee’, were found to contain cocaine weighing approximately nine pounds.
The second woman, who was also scheduled to board a flight destined to Europe checked in on Sunday at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. Her luggage was searched and 25 tins, each marked ‘Linstead Market Callaloo’ containing compressed ganja, weighing approximately 25 pounds was found.
The cocaine seized is valued at J$4.5 million and the ganja J$125,000.
The identities of the woman are being withheld pending further investigations, the police say.
