JTB searching for a new Director of Tourism
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Word emerged on Sunday, by way of a newspaper advertisement, that the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) job now held by Paul Pennicook is to be filled by someone else soon.
OBSERVER ONLINE was unable to reach Pennicook for a response, but the advertisement listed a 17-point requirement for the successful applicant to fulfil.
The director, who according to the advertisement, is required to be based in Kingston, would be, among other things, mandated to provide leadership, direction and management of the JTB’s local and overseas office to ensure the continuous development, expansion and “successful marketing of the tourist industry so that Jamaica enhances its position as the tourist destination of choice.”
The successful applicant is also expected to have “in-depth knowledge of the Jamaica’s tourist industry; proven experience in the area of marketing and promotion, knowledge of global influences on the industry; a capacity to build mutually productive working relationships with key players in the industry” and the ability to promote professional staff development advancement.
The academic requirements for the job also calls for a university degree in what the JTB considers an “appropriate” discipline, and a minimum of 10 years experience in a tourism-related enterprise, five of which should be at a senior management level.
The deadline for applications to reach the senior manager for Human Resource Development at the JTB in Kingston is August 7.
Pennicook was first appointed Director of Tourism on March 1, 2003.
