Cop’s press conference to update public on killing of wanted man
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Following Saturday’s killing of Westmoreland’s most wanted man, Sadan Mullings, the police say they will be conducting a press conference today to update the public on the matter.
The press conference, slated for 11:00 am at the Westmoreland Divisional Police Headquarters, will also provide statistics relating to crime in the parish.
Head of Area One, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Warren Clarke, and Head of the Westmoreland Division, Senior Superintendent Egbert Parkins, and other members of the High Command will be in attendance.
According to police, Mullings, 26, otherwise called Sadam, was wanted for over 20 murders and multiple shootings in Westmoreland and other parishes.
On Saturday, the police reported that Mullings and his cronies, fired on members of the security forces during an intense gun battle in Westmoreland.
A policeman reportedly escaped life-threatening injuries during the gun battle as a bullet lodged in his bulletproof vest. A police service vehicle was also extensively damaged from gunfire, the police reported.
An Uzi submachine gun and a Glock pistol were allegedly seized after the shootout.
The Inspectorate of the Constabulary as well as the Independent Commission of Investigations have since launched probes into the incident.
