Petrojam apologises for Kingston Harbour oil spill
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Petrojam Limited is today apologising for a major oil spill in the Kingston Harbour on Wednesday, which was reported by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
In a release a short while ago, the company said that it “deeply regrets” the incident and is making every effort to protect the health and safety of the public and preserve the environment.
The oil slick was seen within the oil/water separator and containment boom at its refinery.

Petrojam explained that it activated its emergency response and incident command mechanism immediately and stopped the source of the spill.
“Remediation protocols, as approved by NEPA were used to remove the oil,” Petrojam disclosed.
It said that majority of the oil has since been recovered and clean-up efforts will continue as needed and mandated by NEPA. There have been no reports of impact to plant or animal life.
