Online payments to be facilitated during traffic ticket amnesty
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Delinquent motorists are being provided with an additional option to pay for outstanding traffic tickets in the 60-day amnesty period, which commences on August 2.
Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Pearnel Charles Jr, said that motorists who wish to participate in the ticket amnesty will be able to pay their fees online through Tax Administration of Jamaica’s website.
This is in addition to paying the outstanding fees at any tax office island wide.
Charles Jr told OBSERVER ONLINE that once motorists have the information, they should be facilitated via the online payment portal.
Additionally, in the event that outstanding tickets cannot be found, assistance will be provided in determining the details of his/her ticket(s), he said.
This assistance, according to Chief Corporate Communications Officer at Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), Meris Haughton, can be accessed via a call centre, which will be set up through the Ministry of National Security, to facilitate the amnesty period.
Haughton did not disclose the contact information for the call centre, but it is expected that this will be done before the start of the amnesty.
To pay tickets online, motorists are required to use a credit card or a debit card with credit card features and log on to www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
The amnesty ends on October 31 and caters to tickets issued after September 1, 2010.
