Race for EBL promotion heats up
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The race for the lone promotion place to the Western Basketball Association’s Elite Basketball League will be intensified today as the best-of-three finals of the Tropical Blue Spring Water Men’s Basketball Championships (MBC) between Cornwall Courts Chargers and Sav-Elite Titans gets underway the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
With just the winners replacing the relegated Muschett Falcons in the EBL next season, the battle between the two evenly matched team is expected to be fierce from the start.
Cornwall Court Chargers booked their spot on Monday after completing a 2-0 win over UWI-Western Jamaica Campus Jayhawks 71-47 at the Cricket Club on Monday.
A day earlier Sav-Elite Titans secured their place in the finals after Herbert Morrison Spartans failed to show up after losing the first game 57-63.
Cornwall Courts and Sav-Elite had shared their regular-season games, each winning at home, but will be on neutral soil for this series that continues on Saturday with Game Two.
On Monday, Cornwall Courts dominated UWI-WJC Jayhawks from the start and ran away to an easy 24-point victory led by Giovanni Bailey with 15 points, despite him coming in the game during the second half.
Wayne Morris scored 14 points, Franz Clennon scored 10 points, and John Murray had 16 rebounds.
Kyle Schloss was the top scorer for Jayhawks with 12 points, while George Douglas scored 10, and Antonio Spence grabbed 12 rebounds and had five blocked shots.
