Supreme Court announces plea bargaining dates
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Supreme Court, as part of the Criminal Case Management Programme, has announced the next scheduled dates for accused individuals who are guilty and wish to plead guilty, to have significant discounts in their sentences.
The initiative, dubbed “Sentence Reduction Days”, will see cases being heard in the Home Circuit and Gun Courts on Thursday, October 19 in Kingston and Friday, October 20 in St Catherine.
The Supreme Court has advised lawyers who may have clients interested in the initiative to apply for an “Advanced Sentence Indication”.
Applications must be submitted by July 28 at the St Catherine Parish Court and July 31 at the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
An Advanced Sentence Indication will allow a lawyer to advise his/her client on the likely sentence they would receive for the offence charged, if a guilty plea is entered on.
