Jamaican doctor killed in Cayman traffic collision
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Jamaican doctor died after being hit by a taxi outside the Owen Roberts International Airport yesterday.
She has been identified as 62-year-old Vary Anetta Jones-Leslie.
According to reports from Cayman News, Jones-Leslie succumbed to her injuries at the George Town hospital early this morning.
The physician, who was visiting Cayman for a short period of work at the hospital, was struck by the taxi as she crossed the road outside the airport close to Andy’s Rent-a-car around 10:45 am Monday.
It is also reported that a 69-year-old man, from Bodden Town in Cayman, who was driving the taxi, has been released from hospital as the investigation continues.
Following the news yesterday, Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell said that his ministry would be looking at strengthening existing safety protocols at the airport to prevent future incidents.
