Jamaica to host electrical engineering conference
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Hundreds of engineers from across the Caribbean and Latin America will gather in Montego Bay, Jamaica, July 23 to 28 for the 2017 Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) Engineers Conference.
In a release today, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) said this year’s conference will look at the changes in the energy industry, and the opportunities presented by these changes. As such, the theme is “Re-Engineering our Energy Future: a Utility in a Disruptive Age”.
The power company said the conference is open to engineers, utility workers, petroleum dealers, and industry professionals, as well as vendors wishing to showcase new technologies, goods and services applicable to the utility sector.
The conference will feature a combination of presentations, panel discussions and open sessions, covering a wide range of topics, including emerging trends in power generation, smart grid engineering, security plans for protecting the grid, and the re-tooling of workers for the utility of the future.
The training component of the conference will include seminars on: power fault cable locating, energy storage, fuel management, and transformer distribution.
The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) is an association of electric services, dealers, manufactures and other stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean region, Central and South Americas and Globally.
