Police corruption is everywhere
Dear Editor,
I have watched several documentaries about the history of police behaviour including the history of the British and the American police forces and I’m not surprised about any illegal activities that they might have been involved with. Our Jamaican police are chickens where corrupt practices are concerned especially when compared with the British and American forces.
The police have been exposed to daily acts of corruption dating back to the days of the famous Al Capone. I’ve watched an ex-senior police explained his involvement in acts of corruption for large sums of money. Some had close connection with some of the most dangerous criminals in the history of crime. Police received thousands of dollars to send the wrong man to prison while the guilty man walked free. The evil behind all of this is money.
At the end of the day it boils down the one who is honest and the one who decides to be satisfied. Not too long ago it was discovered that a group of police officers had several million dollars in their bank accounts. The authorities wanted to know where they received so much money from but there was not enough evidence to nail them for corruption, so they were asked to explain where they had got such large sums of money, but they all resigned their posts and walk free as wealthy police officers.
We will always hear of police corruption, it is characteristic of the job.
