North/South Highway oil spill cleared — NEPA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) says that the oil spill, which occurred after a traffic crash on the North/South Highway in the vicinity of Mammee Bay, St Ann on Friday, has been cleared and is of no threat to the environment or marine life.
According to the NEPA, a detention pond, in which the oil was contained, was covered with marl, sand and soil to absorb the oil from the area. It was then sprayed with oil removal chemicals and the slurry removed by a vacuum truck.
