Lindsay helping to spread Jamaica’s culture
For the past eight years entertainment consultant Christopher Lindsay has been assisting musicians and dancers with getting their Schengen visas and work permits.
The Schengen visa is the document issued by the appropriate authorities for travelling to and within the Schengen Area, which comprises 26 European countries.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer recently, the Jamaican-born Lindsay said his primary interest lies in helping Jamaicans access the international marketplace.
“This will show what Jamaicans have to offer in the area of music, dance, and fashion. This will entice folks who comes in contact with our culture and encourage them to visit Jamaica, which will result in a tourism boost,” he said.
According to Lindsay, Europe is arguably one of the most sought-after markets for any reggae/ dancehall artiste. The continent is a stomping ground for numerous acts through its many events such as Rototom Sunsplash, Reggae Sun Ska, Reggae Jam Uprising, and Seasplash festivals.
“Europe has been good in embracing Jamaican music over the years with each country having their own unique culture and language. Their travel criterion can be very unique, too, so for a Jamaican artiste venturing into this market, adjustment and proper overview is important,” he said.
Born in Kingston, Lindsay is a past student of Jamaica College. He also holds a degree in international shipping and logistic management from Caribbean Maritime Institute.
His entry into music started during his six-form years, where he would draft press releases for artistes to worldwide music mediums. His networking caught the attention of international promoters, especially in the European countries.
Lindsay boasts an impressive résumé. His clientèle spans from diplomats, dancers, promoters, producers and musicians. Among the listings are dancehall artistes Alkaline, Mavado, Spice, Charly Black, Mad Cobra and Voicemail.
He is currently working with several European-based Jamaicans promoting the culture. Among them is Henzil Clarke from Jam Link International, founder for Aarhus reggae festival in Denmark. He is also prepping for a tour of Europe with reggae duo Voicemail in July.
