More minimum wage consultations today
ST ANN, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will be hosting the second regional consultation on the national minimum wage and the minimum wage for security guards in Ocho Rios, St Ann today.
It will be held at the Almond Tree Restaurant, Main Street, Ocho Rios, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Members of the public and interested organisations in and around Ocho Rios are invited to put forward comments, suggestions or proposals for consideration, as the National Minimum Wage Advisory Commission continues its review of the national minimum wage and the minimum wage for security guards for 2017/18.
The Commission is mandated to review these wage rates annually. The last increases were in March 2016.
The national minimum wage moved from $5,600 per week to $6,200 for a 40-hour workweek. The Minimum Wage for Industrial Security Guards was also increased from $204.97 per hour to $221.35 per hour for a 40-hour work.
