Hospiten Montego Bay gets ISO certification
Hospiten Montego Bay — the only private hospital in Jamaica outside of Kingston with a Intensive Care Unit — has recently been granted international certification in quality and environmental management systems.
The recognition from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is another feather in the cap of the western medical facility.
In receiving this ISO certification, not only will Hospiten Montego Bay have a leg up on the competition in terms of its global outreach, it is now clearly in a league of its own as it relates to international quality and environmental standards.
General manager of the hospital, Gerardo Bravo, was elated with the hotel’s recent accomplishment.
“ It is a great honour for Hospiten Montego Bay to be recognised internationally for the implementation of environmental and quality systems. It has been a long and demanding journey for the hospital, but finally it was achieved through great collaboration and teamwork,” Bravo said.
“ Not only are we focused on the medical care of our patients, we also seek to be an environmentally friendly institution that cares about preserving the beautiful island of Jamaica,” he added.
Hospiten officially opened its doors in Rose Hall, St James, in October 2015. A number of Government officials and dignitaries were on hand to welcome what was roundly described as an important addition to the local health sector and an asset to the tourism industry of Jamaica.
But not only has Hospiten Montego Bay lived up to its high expectations, the hospital — with its 24-hour emergency room, 24HR CT Scan, Xray and Ultrasound services; a 22-bed hospitalisation area, a five-bed ICU, a clinical analysis lab, and an outpatient service with a wide range of specialties — has endeared itself to both locals and foreigners. It has also enabled the tourist capital of Montego Bay to proudly promote itself as having one of the best health facilities in the English-speaking Caribbean.
ISO is a non-profit organisation that develops and publishes standards of virtually every possible sort, ranging from standards for information technology to fluid dynamics and nuclear energy.
As the largest developer and publisher of standards in the world, ISO fills the vital role of a medium for agreement between individual standards developers, spreading progress made by one country’s local developers across the world to further the goal of standardisation.
Another role of the ISO is to provide organisations with a framework to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions in balance with socio-economic needs. It specifies requirements that enable an organisation to achieve the intended outcomes it sets for its environmental management system.
Since 2008, Jamaica has been a priority destination for the Hospiten health care group, where they currently have a hospital in Montego Bay, a medical specialist centre in Falmouth, and 16 ambulatory health centres — under the brand name Clinic Assist — located in the different tourist resorts on the island and at Montego Bay airport.
