Soldier held with cocaine at NMIA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) was yesterday arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) on several breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
The police did not name the soldier but said he is a 32-year-old lance corporal. He is to be charged with possession of cocain, dealing in cocaine and attempting to export cocaine
Reports are that about 4:45 pm, the soldier was attempting to board a flight destined for Toronto, Canada when personnel from the police’s Canine Division alerted the detectives to a suitcase belonging to him.
The suitcase was removed and searched in his presence. The search revealed several false compartments which contained cocaine, the police reported. The lawmen said they also discovered that more cocaine was hidden in three souvenir cups.
The illicit drug reportedly weighed 6.2 pounds and has an estimated street value of J$3,351,600.
