ONLINE READERS COMMENT: We don’t need a ‘Get the Guns’ campaign Montague, guns don’t kill people
Dear Editor, With all due respect Minister Robert Montague, guns don’t kill people, just as matches don’t burn down houses.
You are missing the real issue. People use guns to kill people. If you want to impact the issue of crime and violence, you need to accept that fact as a base point from which to start.
If we can influence and change mindsets we will have the problem 90 per cent solved.
We don’t need a “Get the Guns” campaign, we need a “Get the Minds” campaign.
If you get the guns, the minds that got them in the first place will go back and get more. If you get the minds then there will be no need for guns and those who have them will even bring them in.
So, Minister Montague, help us advocate for a re-socialisation campaign. If we introduced this 10 years ago we would have a peaceful Jamaica today. Since we did not start then, let today be the first day of the rest of our lives.
If you need details on what a comprehensive and strategic re-socialisation program should represent contact @UniteJamaicaPeople on Facebook.
