Dacres finishes 2nd in discus at Oslo Diamond League, Facey 3rd in 200m
OSLO, Norway — Fedrick Dacres proved his class on the international level against a quality field to place second in the men’s discus event at the Diamond League in Oslo, Norway today.
After two rounds, Dacres was down in fifth position with a throw of 61.95m but after the third round, he catapulted the 2kg discus to 67.10m, which placed him in second place.
That was his furthest throw of the day, as he could not match the 67.36m reached by Sweden’s Daniel Ståhl in the third round, who later extended his lead to 68.06m and won the event.
Dacres is the national record holder in the discus event and current world leader, with a distance of 68.88m set earlier this season.
Other competitors in the field included 2012 London Olympic champion, Robert Harting, 2016 Rio Olympic champion, Christoph Harting both of Germany who placed fifth and sixth respectively.
On the track, Simone Facey, the only other Jamaican on the day, produced a season’s best of 22.77 seconds to place third in the 200m dash for women.
Daphne Schippers of the Netherlands won the event in 22.31 seconds.
