Slain PNP secretary remembered at service for new JPs
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — A pall of gloom hung over the Commissioning Ceremony for Justices of the Peace for the parish of St Andrew, this afternoon.
One of the JP designate, People’s National Party (PNP) divisional secretary Maxine Simpson, was missing from the group of 32 as they convened at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.
Fifty-two-year-old Simpson was scheduled to take the oath of allegiance and later presented with her writ and seal today.
However, she was shot dead earlier this month during an attack at the Caribbean Palm Community Centre on Spanish Town Road where PNP Councillor for the Division Karl Blake was shot and injured.
A minute of silence led by Custos for St Andrew, Dr Patricia Dunwell, was observed for Simpson.
A brief tribute was also read in her memory.
