Williams replaces injured Gabriel for One-Day series decider
GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC) – Twenty20 specialist Kesrick Williams is poised to make his 50-overs debut after being called up to replace the injured Shannon Gabriel for the third and final One-Day International against Afghanistan here Wednesday.
The 27-year-old seamer was the leading bowler for West Indies in the recent three-match T20 series with eight wickets as the Afghans were swept 3-0 at Warner Park in St Kitts.
Williams has played eight T20 Internationals since making his debut in September last year against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
Gabriel, meanwhile, has been ruled out by a side strain which he picked up during last Sunday’s second ODI at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground.
The right-armer picked up three wickets in the first two matches of the series.
The series is level at 1-1 after West Indies lost the opening ODI by 63 runs and returned to win the second by four wickets.
