Dr Ferguson welcomes new town centre for Morant Bay
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for St Thomas Eastern and Opposition Spokesman on Labour & Social Security, Dr Fenton Ferguson has welcomed the announcement that the old Goodyear factory site, near Morant Bay, will be developed as a town centre.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the Chairman of Factories Corporation of Jamaica, Littleton Shirley made the recent announcement.
In welcoming the decision Dr Ferguson said that both People’s National Party and Jamaica Labour Party administrations, over many years, have made major announcements and failed to deliver on promises for the development of the site.
Dr Ferguson, in a release today, said that he believed the political representatives and citizens of St Thomas be brought into the discussions early to allow for a buy-in by residents, and learning of the benefits the project brings to the parish.
He also recommended that this project be tied to the development of the Southern Coastal Highway, from Harbour View to Port Antonio, and asked for an official update of the financing arrangement and timeline associated with both projects.
